Hadhrat Mufti Mahmud Hasan Gangohi رحمه الله once said:

” ‘Allamah Ibrahim Balyawi رحمه الله once narrated,

one of my teachers was [from the] Ahl al-Hadith. He used to issue Fatawa. I once went to [visit] him while he was alone and [found] that he was studying Al-Hidayah (a well known Classical Hanafi Fiqh Manual) and Fatawa ‘Alamgheeri. I enquired, ”Hadhrat, You are [from the] Ahl al-Hadith. Why are you looking at the books of the Hanafis?” He answered, ”where else will we find the Juz’iyyat (particulars of Fiqh) ? We take them from these books. And, Imam Zayla’ee has verified the Ahaadith in Al-Hidayah. We will give these as references, that this particular Mas’alah is proven from this particular Hadith.”
