The [following] habit of Hadhrat [Mawlana Khalil Ahmad] Saharanpuri has been mentioned in Tadhkirat al-Khalil[1] that during the lifetime of [his Shaykh] Mawlana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi, he would not, first of all, accept bay’ah[2] from anyone. Even if — due to someone insisting — he did accept bay’ah, then he would make them repeat the following words after him, “Say: I give bay’ah to Mawlana Rashid Ahmad sahib, upon the hands of Khalil Ahmad.”

[1] This is the biography of Hadhrat Mawlana Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri, authored by his khalifa Mawlana Muhammad ‘Ashiq Ilahi Meerathi, who also penned a similar biography of Hadhrat Mawlana Rashid Ahmed Gangohi, entitled Tadhkirat al-Rashid. Maulana Ashiq Ilahi was initially a murid of Hadhrat Gangohi but after his demise turned to Hadhrat Saharanpuri from whom he received khilafat.
